Tax Services Request for Nonprofit Entities

Expertise in Nonprofit Tax Services

At GRF, our CPAs specialize in all nonprofit tax strategies, including retaining tax-exempt status, tax planning, and preparing Federal Form 990. We work with hundreds of nonprofits to assist them with their IRS tax filing requirements.

Are you filing for yourself or a for-profit business?  Start here instead.

However, not all nonprofit tax issues require the assistance of a CPA firm.

GRF does not assist with applications for exemption, we typically have clients work with legal counsel for this part of the process. Here is a link to the IRS web page showing the procedure for getting your exemption reinstated:

For small organizations with average annual gross receipts of $50k or less, the Form 990-N postcard return may be able to satisfy your annual tax filing obligation with the IRS. Here’s a link to the IRS website to see if you qualify: www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/annual-electronic-filing-requirement-for-small-exempt-organizations-form-990-n-e-postcard

If you meet these qualifications, the 990-N postcard return is a very simple 1-page filing that reports the organization’s name, address, and EIN#. Generally, because of its simplicity, this form is more cost effective for organizations to complete internally.

If your organization has gross receipts less than $200,000 and total assets at the end of the year less than $500,000, it can file Form 990-EZ, instead of Form 990. Here is a link with instructions. www.irs.gov/instructions/i990ez#en_US_2023_publink1000282755

Still need help? Let’s discuss!

If you are unable to qualify for the 990-N or 990-EZ, and need to file Form 990, we can help! Depending on your circumstances and the complexity of your organization, Form 990 preparation and filing fees can vary significantly – for many of our clients these fees start at around $4,000.

To discuss further, simply reply to this email and let us know a few days and times that work for you to set up a call.

Please note that our office will be closed from December 25 through January 1, as many of us are taking time off to spend the holidays with our families and friends. During this period, it may take longer than usual to reply to your messages. We’ll be back in the office on January 2nd.
